PONDA: Following a complaint lodged by Pramod Keshav Magare, inspector of posts, at Ponda Mukhya Dak Ghar (Ponda main post office), Ponda police on Wednesday booked Mukesh Bajpai, a postal assistant at the same office, for allegedly siphoning off money of insured people.
Ponda PI Vijaykumar Chodankar said the accused who was entrusted to receive money from people towards postal life insurance and rural postal life insurance, had collected an amount of Rs 60,637 between July 31 and October 21, last year, but neither deposited it in the postal account nor updated the data regarding the payments in their McCamish software.
The complaint has also alleged that the accused has misappropriated the postal funds for his personal benefit.
An offence of criminal breach of trust has been registered at Ponda police station against Bajpai under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
