Coimbatore: The health department on Wednesday said 78% of the new Covid-19 cases that the district reported in the past seven days were from the city corporation limits. “At least 238 people tested positive for the virus in the district during the period. Of them, 187 were from the city limits,” a senior health official said.
Among the 238 cases, the official said, 18 had a travel history to other districts. “While Thondamuthur recorded 11 cases, in the remaining blocks the cases didn’t cross single digit.”
Pointing out rural areas mainly accounted for sporadic cases, the official said family clusters were being reported in the city limits as in the earlier three Covid waves.
The official said the cases were scattered across the city. “However, there are instances where family members are testing positive for the viral infection. Those tested have no travel history.”
Asked whether there were vaccinated people among the infected patients, the official said both the vaccinated and non-vaccinated were contracting the virus. “The infected patients are stable and mostly placed in home quarantine.”
