Odisha: ‘One station one product’ stalls opened pin Cuttack, Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: Under the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched two stalls at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack railway stations, involving local self-help groups, in co-ordination with the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS).
The Centre has announced this scheme with an objective to provide enhanced livelihood and welfare of local artisans, potters, weavers/handloom weavers and tribals. Under this scheme, the beneficiaries are provided with stalls at railway stations to showcase and sell the famous local products of that particular area.
“Main objective of the scheme is to make the railway stations a promotional hub and showcase destination for the local products, thereby giving a major boost to local industries,” said a ECoR statement.
After opening of the stalls at two major railway stations, passengers can get the Khurda district’s famous ‘Bell metal products’ at Bhubaneswar railway station and the Cuttack district’s famous ‘Silver filigree handicrafts and handloom products’ at Cuttack railway station.
An official said the passengers can purchase the products directly from artisans without involving any intermediaries.
Earlier, Khurda Road division had launched one stall at Puri railway station to promote Odisha’s famous ‘Pattachitra’ and ‘Pipili Applique’ under this scheme. The division has also issued notification through various social media platforms, for inviting applications for ‘One Station One Product’ stalls at 78 railway stations over Khurda Road division.
Rinkesh Roy, the divisional railway manager, Khurda Road urged the local artisans, potters, weavers, tribals to come forward to apply for these stalls.
