Rs 1.6 crore gold seized at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials at the Chennai airport have seized 3.4 kg gold from a woman passenger who landed in the city on Tuesday from Sri Lanka.
The woman, identified as Jesantha Mary Francis Andaroseraj of Trichy was intercepted by customs officials based on a tip. A search of her baggage led to the seizure of gold in paste form.
Weighing 3.4 kg, the gold is of 24 karat purity and valued at Rs 1.6 crore. The gold was seized and the woman was arrested.
