CHENNAI: Avadi police commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore on Wednesday said police will provide security to the AIADMK general council and executive committee meetings, scheduled to be held at Vanagaram on Thursday, as per the directions of the Madras high court.
The top cop further said that police cannot intervene in such meetings as they are going to be held in a private hall and cannot stop such meetings.
AIADMK general body meet live updatesOn Tuesday, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam filed a petition with the Avadi commissionerate urging it not to give permission to the conduct of the general council and executive committee meetings. The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the police authorities to consider the plea for police protection to the AIADMK’s general council and executive committee meetings.
Following the directions, police have intensified security around the premises. Barricades have been installed near the gates of the venue.
“Patrol vehicles have been stationed at the venue to avoid any untoward incidents on the public roads. Those creating ruckus outside the premises will be removed from the place,” said a senior police officer.
Police have intensified security arrangements by deploying 1600 policemen both at the venue and the routes leading to it.
Policemen posted for security, have also been instructed to check the photo identity card of all members who come to participate in the meetings.
