Mangaluru/ Udupi: The coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada have been witnessing widespread moderate to heavy rain, with isolated very heavy rain since Monday, that continued on Wednesday also.
It rained heavily in Uttara Kannada, with three locations receiving heavy rain in the last 24 hours, till 8.30am on Wednesday. They are, Bandal, Sirsi taluk (237mm), Baad, Karwar taluk (164 mm) and Shiravad, also in Karwar taluk, received 142.5 mm of rain.
Barring Uttara Kannada, the two coastal districts received less rain on this day, than last year. While Uttara Kannada received 21% excess rain, at 32.6mm than last year, Udupi (30mm) and Dakshina Kannada (27.3mm) districts received 30% and 26% less rain than last year, on the same day, respectively.
IMD has issued an orange alert for the coast for the next two days, and predicted that the coast will receive heavy to very heavy rain (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm) at isolated places in all the districts of coastal
Karnataka. It has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning, likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of coastal Karnataka. The prediction is from Wednesday to Sunday.
