NOIDA: A 54-year-old woman, a Cambodian national, was allegedly brutally thrashed, kicked and bitten by her husband which left her bleeding on the floor of their apartment at a high-rise in Sector 128 last month, police said on Wednesday. The accused, the complainant said, had also confined her to a room and prevented her from communicating with her family or neighbours.
The couple later approached the local police on May 25 and was advised to visit the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Delhi for a mutual settlement. On June 21, a complaint was submitted by the woman at Sector 126 police station after they allegedly failed to arrive at a resolution.
On Wednesday, ACP-1 Noida Ankita Sharma said a complaint under IPC Sections 498A (cruelty to a woman by husband), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) had been lodged in the matter, however, medical examination of the woman had not indicated any physical assault.
“We have called the accused for questioning. At present, the main cause of the fight between them seems to be over money, so we have sent the two for counselling,” Sharma said, adding that the couple has met the consular officer of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia for a resolution over the last few days.
According to the complaint, Ankur Gandhi (42), a businessman and resident of Jaypee Wishtown in Sector 128, and Amara Hok, a homemaker, are married for 10 years and their marriage was registered in conformity with the Indian laws in July 2015.
Hok, in her complaint, claimed that around 6 pm on May 24, Gandhi had hit her and broke both of her hands. “He bit my wrist and chin and even attacked my genitals. He grabbed and kicked me, causing serious injuries. He also pulled my hair and slapped my ears, causing heavy injuries and bleeding,” the woman claimed.
She alleged that the accused later poured water on her to wash off the blood and eliminate any evidence. He also switched off her phone to prevent her from contacting her family, friends and relatives in India and abroad. She claimed that Gandhi refused to provide her medical assistance despite her injuries. “So, I have no medical certificates,” the complaint read.
