GURUGRAM: Authorities in the city are considering ‘on-street’ parking spaces on MG Road and Golf Course Road, with the possibility that these facilities would also be connected to the smart parking system.
Both of the stretches are among the busiest in the city, and also house gated condominiums, offices and malls.
Gurugram police commissioner Kala Ramachandran said on Wednesday: “To curb the menace of wrong parking, which results in congested traffic on the road, we will explore the possibility for ‘on-street’ parking on MG Road and Golf Course Road to streamline the haphazard style of parking currently being practised.”
“The markings for parking on these roads shall be provided by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (
MCG), and both MG Road and Golf Course Road will be connected for Smart Parking under the Smart City Project of the GMDA,” she said at a meeting chaired by GMDA chief executive officer (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal to discuss traffic management in Gurugram .
The smart parking system, to be introduced by the GMDA in Sector 44, will allow commuters to get real-time information about parking slots available in a particular area and give the option to book a space online or through a mobile application before travelling.
Smart parking, if introduced, could benefit hundreds of commuters who routinely park on the MG Road and the Golf Course Road.
Ramachandran also said police will initiate action against those illegally parking near shopping malls.
Besides this, GMDA officials asked the MCG, the Haryana State Industries and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), and the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to ensure that street lights are installed and operational. These, they said, are critical for the functioning of CCTV surveillance cameras and to get the accurate picture of traffic violations and vehicle number plates at night.
Efforts are also on to install CCTV cameras at 38 spots where traffic police believe wrong side-driving detection is required, GMDA officials said.
Similarly, DCP (traffic) Ravinder Singh Tomar is expected to convey to the GMDA locations that need information boards and signages to give directions to the commuters.
“We are working towards improving vehicle traffic management and chalking out measures to enhance safety on roads and offer ease of commute to residents in the city,” said GMDA CEO Sudhir Rajpal.
“Issues pertaining to traffic signals, signages, wrong parking, encroachments, road repairs, street lights, among others are being looked into by all concerned departments,” he added.
