KOLKATA: Three weeks after Kolkata Traffic Police blocked the important Malapara crossing to help KMDA complete the demolition of the Posta flyover, there is some respite for residents as cops are all set to allow resumption of vehicle movement along the Howrah-bound flank of the road from Wednesday evening. This will relief bus commuters, who had to take a detour through JM Avenue-CR Avenue and MG Road. The police stated that public transport vehicles can resume using Kalakar Street to reach Howrah. “This will not only decongest CR Avenue but will also reduce travelling time,” stated an officer. The police have already written to the civic agencies to ensure that the road between Ganesh Talkies and Girish Park is relayed at the quickest before the rains come in.
According to KMDA engineers and traffic police, almost 75% of the entire work is now over with the remaining 25% to be over in the next 60 days. “We are now on the verge of completing the third phase,” said a project engineer. — Dwaipayan Ghosh
