Bokaro: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old person to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping an 18-year-old girl by keeping her in captivity for 18 days in 2014.
The court of additional session judge-4-cum-special judge crime against women, Yogesh Kumar Singh, held Rashid Ansari guilty under section 376 (rape) and 366 (kidnapping) of IPC.
It also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him for rape and 10 years RI and Rs 10,000 fine for kidnapping.
Both the sentencing will run concurrently and the fine will be given to the rape survivor.
Special public prosecutor (SPP) Rakesh Kumar Rai said, “The incident occurred when the girl had gone to attend nature’s call. Ansari kidnapped her at knifepoint. After she regained conscious, she found herself in Odisha. There she was raped several times.”
SPP added that the father of the girl had lodged a complaint on April 7, 2014. After 18 days, Ansari was nabbed and the girl was rescued. However, Ansari in between fled while on bail.
“The court had declared him an absconder on September 14, 2018. After four years in May 2021, he was caught and produced before the court,” he said.
