Coronavirus India Live Updates: Delhi reported 928 new Covid-19 cases (lowest since June 13) and 3 pandemic related deaths on Wednesday. There are 5,054 active cases in Delhi while the city’s positivity rate stands at 7.08%. A total of 26,453 people got vaccinated in the capital in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile Mumbai recorded 1,648 new Covid cases on Wednesday and the total number of active cases in the city stands at 13,501.

India recorded 12,249 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Wednesday. With this, the total number of active cases crossed 81,000, according to the latest data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray  tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. Their diagnosis comes at a time when the state is in the midst of a political crisis. The ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government is facing the threat of being toppled after Shiv Sena leader Eknath Khadse and 40 other rebel MLAs have left the state, and are currently camping in Assam’s Guwahati.

Chhattisgarh sees 131 new Covid-19 cases, no death; active tally now 585

Chhattisgarh on Wednesday recorded 131 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the tally in the state to 11,53,356, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,035 as nobody succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said.


Raipur led with 29 cases, followed by 21 in Durg, 16 in Surguja, 11 in Korea and eight in Bilaspur, while seven districts did not report any case, he said.


The recovery count reached 11,38,736 after 62 persons recuperated during the day. (PTI)

Telangana sees 434 new Covid-19 cases

Telangana continued to see a substantial rise in new Covid-19 cases with 434 fresh infections being reported on Wednesday. Hyderabad reported the highest number of cases with 292.


A health department bulletin said 129 people recuperated from the infectious disease and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,90,347. The recovery rate stood at 99.15 per cent. (PTI)

UP set to vaccinate 100% of eligible population against Covid

Uttar Pradesh will soon have 100 per cent of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, officials claimed on Wednesday.

The state has provided vaccine cover to nearly 99 per cent of its people in every category - health workers, frontline workers, senior citizens, adults, children in the age group 15-17, and children in the age group 12-14 --, an official statement by the Chief Minister's PR team claimed. (PTI)

Covid-19: Goa reports 156 new cases, zero death

Goa on Wednesday reported 156 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its overall tally to 2,47,520, the health department said.

As nobody succumbed to the infection during the day, the death toll in the district remained unchanged at 3,833. A total of 82 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday. There are 866 active cases in the state at present. (PTI)

Sikkim reports five new Covid-19 cases

Sikkim reported five new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 39,198, a health department bulletin said on Wednesday. East Sikkim district reported all five cases.


The Himalayan state currently has 13 active Covid-19 cases, while 37,981 people have recovered from the disease and 751 others have migrated to other states. The Covid-19 death remained at 453. (PTI)

Gujarat logs 407 new Covid-19 cases, highest daily count in four months

Gujarat on Wednesday recorded 407 new cases of coronavirus, the highest daily count in four months. The state had last reported over 400 daily cases on February 19 with 486 infections.

With this, the state now has 1,741 active cases, with four patients on ventilator support. (PTI)

Madhya Pradesh logs 49 Covid-19 cases

Madhya Pradesh logged 49 new Covid cases on Wednesday. The Covid-19 death toll remained unchanged at 10,740 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.


The case positivity rate for MP stood at 0.6 per cent, he said.The count of recoveries increased by 52 leaving the state with 454 active cases. (PTI)

Slight dip in daily Covid-19 cases in Kerala with 3,890 new infections

Fresh Covid-19 cases in Kerala saw a slight dip on Wednesday with the State reporting 3,890 infections, taking the caseload till date to 66,12,607.


The southern State saw 3,172 people recovering from the disease, according to official data. Today, there were 7 deaths due to Covid-19, taking the total casualties to 69,924. The active cases have risen to 25,044 till date, according to the data. (PTI)

Mumbai logs 1,648 coronavirus cases, 2 new deaths; active tally down to 13,501

Mumbai on Wednesday reported 1,648 new Covid-19 cases, down from 1,781 the previous day, while two more patients succumbed to the infection in the metropolis, the local civic body said.

With these additions, the overall infection tally rose to 10,99,383, while the death toll increased to 19,588, said a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulletin. 

Mumbai has seen less than 2,000 Covid-19 cases for the third consecutive day and witnessed a dip of 133 Covid-19 cases as compared to the previous day. (PTI)

At 3,260, Covid-19 cases in Maha dip by 399 in 24 hrs; three fatalities

Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 3,260 new Covid-19 cases, including 1,648 in Mumbai, and three fatalities, taking the tally to 79,45,022 and the death toll to 1,47,892, the state health department said.


The state reported 399 fewer cases compared to 3,659 infections recorded a day before. Of the three fresh Covid-19 fatalities, two were reported from Mumbai and one from Raigad.


The state also saw six fresh cases of patients detected with BA.5 sub-variant including five from Pune and one from Nagpur, raising the overall tally of BA.4 and BA.5 cases so far to 25, including 15 in Pune, five in Mumbai, three in Nagpur and two in Thane. (PTI)

TN logs 771 new Covid-19 infections, to hold mass vaccination drive on July 10

Tamil Nadu on Wednesday logged 771 new Covid-19 infections, pushing the tally to 34,63,068 while the death toll remained unchanged at 38,026 with nil fatalities, the Health Department said.


As many as 459 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,20,364 leaving 4,678 active infections, a bulletin said.


Minister for Medical and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian said the government would hold the mass vaccination exercise on July 10 through one lakh vaccination camps.

Chennai accounted for the majority of new cases with 345, followed by Chengalpet 126 while the remaining was spread across 29 of the 38 districts. (PTI)

Maha: Nashik logs 30 new Covid-19 cases; active tally at 220

With the addition of 30 new cases of Covid-19, the tally of infections in Maharashtra's Nashik district reached 4,76,529 on Wednesday, an official from the health department said.


As many as 20 patients recovered from the infection during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 4,67,405, while the toll remained unchanged at 8,899, he said.


The district is now left with 220 active cases, the official said. (PTI)

40 new Covid cases, 1 death in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported 40 new Covid-19 cases, raising its tally to 4,54,585, while one more death pushed the fatality count to 4,755, officials said.

Twenty-two cases were reported from the Jammu division and 18 from the Kashmir Valley, they said. The fresh death was recorded in Kashmir, the officials added. (PTI)

Mandaviya to chair high-level review meeting on Friday over rising Covid-19 cases

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will on Friday chair a high-level review meeting with the core team of experts over increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country, official sources said.


India has been witnessing an increase in coronavirus infections over the last couple of weeks. As on date, 10 states -- Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat -- have over 1,000 active cases.

The core team of experts will include AIIMS director Dr Randip Guleria, ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava and NCDC director Sujeet Singh. (PTI)

Illnesses caused by BA.2.38 are mild, self-limiting, says Covid-19 study

Majority of patients infected by Omicron's sub-variant — BA.2 and its offspring BA.2.38 — did not require hospitalisation, and illnesses caused by them were mild and self-limiting, a clinical study has revealed.The study, led by Dr Rajesh Karyekarte of B J Medical College, was conducted on 116 patients who were infected with BA.2.38, an offspring of Omicron's sub-variant BA.2.

Talking to PTI on Wednesday, Dr Karyekarte said they had done the genome sequencing of some samples from April to June and sent the report to the government. 'During the analysis, we found that BA.2 is common, but its offspring BA.2.38 is also prevalent and is neck to neck with BA.2,' Dr Karyekarte said.

He said that the report was submitted to the government and Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (Insacog) and it was informed in a meeting that the occurrence of BA.2.38 is as same as BA.2. (PTI)

Denmark to offers fourth Covid-19 shot to some

A fourth Covid-19 vaccine dose will be offered to nursing home residents and people age 50 and over in Denmark later this year, the prime minister said Wednesday.


The reason for the move is a rise in cases of the BA.5 coronavirus variant in Europe, and Denmark's government says it wants to move swiftly to avoid potential restrictions or a lockdown.


“The infection has been on the rise for the past three weeks,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said. “That is why we are acting now." She added that the swift move was aimed at taking care of older people and the vulnerable and to avoid the congestion of hospitals, shutdowns and restrictions and to keep the economy going. (AP)

Covid positivity rates in Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar higher than Maharashtra average

As Maharashtra’s Covid positivity rate shot up to 10.64 per cent in the week ending June 21 and weekly positivity rates in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Pune surpassed the state average, experts have urged vigilance.

“We have seen two and a half years of Covid-19 and now there is a need to learn to live with this disease. There is a need to remain vigilant but to refrain from panicking,” Dr Shashank Joshi, expert member of the Covid task force, told

Covid-19: Hospitalisation increases marginally in Delhi

With a surge in Covid-19 infections in Delhi, hospitals are also witnessing a slight increase in admissions, but most of these patients, doctors say, have comorbid conditions.

According to the Delhi Corona app, out of 9491 designated Covid-19 beds, 263 (2.77 per cent) are occupied while 24 out of 1178 ICU beds with ventilators have patients.


On June 15, 182 (1.9 per cent) patients were in hospitals while on June 8, 85 (0.88 per cent) beds were occupied.
Within a fortnight, the hospitalisation has increased by over two times. (PTI)

Singapore: 7,109 new covid cases, one monkeypox infection By Gurdip Singh

Singapore reported 7,109 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Tuesday, comprising 6,393 local infections and 716 imported ones.

A monkeypox infection has also been confirmed, according to media reports.

There have been 13,78,090 coronavirus cases and 1,405 deaths in Singapore since the start of the pandemic.

Singapore has seen a 23 per cent week-on-week increase in COVID-19 community infections, largely driven by increased spread of newer Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Although the BA.2 subvariant still accounts for the bulk of Singapore's COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said the proportion of BA.4 and BA.5 infections is rising.

About 30 per cent of the corona cases in the past week were of BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, as compared to 17 per cent, 8 per cent and 3 per cent for the previous three weeks, respectively, the MOH said.

Telangana logs 403 new Covid-19 cases

Telangana on Tuesday recorded 403 new COVID-19 cases taking the total count in the state to 7,96,704, a Health department bulletin sai

Telangana on Monday recorded 246 new COVID-19 cases.

Amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Telangana Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao said it is important to complete vaccination by taking both doses and it is also equally important to adhere to precautions against COVID, including wearing a face mask and maintaining physical distancing.

Since last 15 days, COVID cases are on slight rise in the country as well as in Telangana, he said.

Children below 10 years of age and elders above 60 years of age are advised to avoid going outdoors unless necessary, he said in an advisory.

There is higher incidence of COVID disease in the age group of 20 to 50 years, hence people are requested to exercise due precaution while going for work/essential activities, he said.
