Ludhiana: MLAs Madan Lal Bagga, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Ashok Prashar Pappi, deputy commissioner (DC) Surabhi Malik, police commissioner Dr Kaustubh Sharma and additional deputy commissioner Amarjit Bains participated in programmes organised to mark International Yoga Day and urged city residents to make yoga an integral part of life to stay healthy and happy.
Addressing the gathering during district-level events to mark International Yoga Day at Nehru Rose Garden and Guru Nanak Stadium, the dignitaries stressed the great role yoga could play these days, when stressful living and lifestyle diseases are posing a risk to lives.
Members of Brahma Kumaris spiritual group released balloons with the message, “Say no to drugs” at Guru Nanak Stadium. They said that the campaign would be extended to 300 villages in a bid to eliminate the drug menace.
District in-charge, Brahma Kumaris BK Sister Saraswati said under this drive, a four-day programme would be held in the district every week to engender awareness against drug abuse. She said that the programme would also be organised at government-run rehabilitation centers. Psychotherapist Dr Girish D. Patel shared a scientific viewpoint on the ill-effects of drugs. Students celebrate Int’l Yoga DayGulzar Group of Institutes organized yoga training camp for staff and students on International yoga Day. More than 50 staff members and students attended the camp, during which the role of yogasanas to keep fit and cure ailments was explained. Yoga expert Daljeet Singh advised students to have a positive attitude in life and work hard.
Management, staff and students of Sant Ishar Singh Ji Memorial Public School Karamsar Rara Sahib observed the 8th International Yoga Day. Staff and NCC cadets of the Sant Ishar Singh Ji Memorial Public School, Government Senior Secondary School Uksi, Government Senior Secondary School Maloud, Government Senior Secondary School Siahar, Radha Vatika Senior Secondary School Khanna, Anand Ishar Senior Secondary School Chhapar, Anand Ishar Senior Secondary School Barmalipur as well as Kalgidhar Academy Senior Secondary School, Dugri participated. Colonel D K Singh and administrative officer Colonel Kulwinder Singh Kondal of 19 Punjab Battalion, Ludhiana also participated.

NCC cadets perform yogasanasCadets of 1 Pb R&V Squadron, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated International Yoga Day. Commanding Officer of the Unit Col S K Bhardwaj, ANOs Capt Dr Nittin Dev Singh , Lt Dr P P Dubey and unit staff along with 150 cadets performed yoga. Cadets were students of BVSc and AH first year and secobd year students of College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU. Yogasanas were performed from 6:30am to 7:30am.
