BHUBANESWAR: Odisha’s minister of state for home Tusharkanti Behera on Tuesday came out in support of Agnipath amid countrywide protests against the Centre’s short-term recruitment scheme for the armed forces.
“Agnipath is a very good opportunity for the youths, who generally prepare for military jobs after clearing classes 10 and 12 exams. Also, they will be given preferences in other jobs after serving four years in defence services", said Behera.
He said since there is reservation for NCC certificate holders for recruitment to Odisha Police, similar provisions can also be made for the Agniveers. Behera hoped that the state government would soon come up with a decision.
Behera’s support to Agnipath assumes significance amid speculations of BJD backing the NDA’s presidential candidate. Earlier, the party had supported various important legislations moved by the NDA government in Parliament.
