Kathua bank robbery solved within 24 hrs; one arrested

JAMMU: A day after Rs 1.65 crore was burgled from a bank near Jammu, police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of one of the accused, and recovered Rs 1.53 crore cash.
Addressing a press conference, Kathua SSP Romesh C Kotwal said, “We have cracked the bank robbery case by arresting one accused and recovered stolen cash of Rs 1,53,86,290 within 24 hours.”
A case had been registered at Kathua police station on the written complaint of HDFC Bank’s Hatli Morh branch manager Ashok Kumar that two unidentified criminals entered the premises through the terrace and after overpowering the guard, looted nearly Rs 1.65 crore.
“During the investigation, a team led by DSP (Hqrs) Shammi Kumar succeeded in arresting one Jagandeep Singh, a resident of Kathua. During questioning, he disclosed the location of stolen cash as well as the name of another accused, Sukhvinder Singh of Kathua, who is still absconding,” the SSP said. Police recovered Rs 1,36,87250 from the residence of Sukhvinder and Rs 16,99,040 from another location.
