Belagavi: A couple lay their eight-year-old ill son at the foot of the Miraculous Cross on Nandagad Hill after losing hope in doctors who could not show them a way forward in treating the child.
The shrine is 35km from Belagavi. Miraculous Cross is developing into a pilgrimage spot of Christians.
The pictures of the couple placing the child at the base of the cross have gone viral. Krishna Satravi, a daily wage worker from Ambarda village in Joida taluk in Uttar Kannada district, decided to surrender his child to the almighty when doctors said there was no treatment that can help their eight-year-old son.
The couple placed the child near the cross in the morning and offered prayers. They took back the child later in the evening. It was a heart-wrenching sight of the mother crying while holding her son in her arms.
“Many people around Nandagad believe in Miraculous Cross. They visit the spot with wishes. I am a Hindu. But I don’t believe in religions. God is one. I just want my son to recover. After all doctors said there is no medicine or procedure left to treat my son, I brought him here. Whatever happens now is as per the wish of god,” Krishna told TOI.
After severe fever, eight-year-old Shailesh lost control over the left part of his body. However, doctors said it was not paralysis, but was caused due to high fever. Shailesh, Krishna’s only son, has been under treatment since March. Villagers and various organizations have helped Krishna get Shailesh treated. So far, more than Rs 13 lakh has been spent on treatment at private hospitals in Hubballi, but in vain.
Krishna said his son’s heath is better than his condition when he was in a hospital ICU. “Doctors were almost ready to declare our son brain dead. So, we brought my son to Miraculous Cross as a last hope,” he said.
