PPE row: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife files Rs 100 crore defamation case against Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia

GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma on Tuesday filed an FIR and a Rs 100-crore civil defamation case against Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia for linking her to allegations of corruption in PPE kit supply in the state in 2020.
Her counsel P Nayak told the media that Sisodia, in a press conference in New Delhi on June 4, had claimed that Sarma as a health minister then gave PPE kit supply orders to the firms of his wife and son's business partners without tender process and that the kits were purchased by government at a higher price.
"My client Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has filed an FIR. Manish Sisodia gave a political statement and dragged my client. She had not filed any tender for the PPE kit supply process. Instead, she gifted the PPE kit as donation under CSR activities," her counsel said. The defamation case matter is expected to be listed tomorrow at the Gauhati High Court.
Sarma next day had dismissed Sisodia's allegations of corruption and linking his wife to the PPE kit supply in the state and had then warned that the AAP leader will soon face "criminal defamation". In a series of tweets Sarma said his wife had donated the PPE kits.
