YAMUNANAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Shalini Sharma was elected the president of the Sadhura Municipal Council in Haryana's Yamunanagar district on Wednesday.
In a setback to Congress MLA Renu Bala, BJP’s Shalini defeated Congress supported independent candidate Nisha Aggarwal with a margin of 122 votes by bagging 2,135 votes. Nisha bagged 2,013 votes.
Independent candidate Vijay Luxmi secured third position with 1,697 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Seema Devi secured fourth with 1,164 votes. Poonam Devi of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) stood fifth with 811 votes. Two more independent candidates Samridhi Mehta and Priti Rani secured sixth and seventh position by bagging 273 and 81 votes respectively.
Speaking to the media, Shalini gave credit of her victory to Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and district BJP chief Rajesh Sapra.
Shalini said, “I thank all the Sadhaura residents for giving me the opportunity to serve. I will treat everyone equally and firstly work to improve the condition of the streets, as people of Sadhaura face problems due to the poor condition of streets. We will first develop the streets. Also we will work to expedite the construction work of the hospital for Sadhaura as announced by Khattar Sahib.”
Of 13 wards of Sadhaura MC, independent candidates won 7 seats, BJP won 4, and 2 went to INLD.
Congress-backed independent candidate elected Naraingarh MC president
Congress-backed independent candidate Rinki Walia was elected the president of Naraingarh Municipal Council in Ambala district.
Rinki defeated BJP candidate Pritpal Kaur Makkar with a margin of 1,061 votes.
Rinki bagged 4,115 votes while Pritpal managed to secure 3,054 votes.
Another independent candidate Mamta Rani secured third position with 2,701 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Anita Devi stood fourth with 1,124 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Kamla Devi stood sixth with 955 votes, followed by Indian National Lok Dal’s Amita Sahni with 255 votes, and independent Shailza Sharma with 180 votes.
BJP’s Sakshi Khurana elected as president of Ladwa MC
BJP candidate Sakshi Khurana was elected president of Ladwa Municipal Council in Kurukshetra district.
Sakshi defeated Congress backed independent candidate Sumit Bansal with a margin of 1,416 votes.
Sakshi bagged 5,818 votes while runner up Sumit got 4,402 votes.
Anil Kumar of Aam Aadmi Party stood third position with 4,358 votes, Parveen Kumar of Bahujan Samaj Party was fourth with 434 votes, and independent Rajan was fifth with 174 votes.
BJP’s Ashish elected President of Pehowa Municipal Council
BJP's Ashish Sharma was elected as president of Pehowa Municipal Council in Kurukshetra district on Wednesday.
Ashish defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Anil Dhawan with a margin of only 55 votes.
Ashish bagged 9,312 votes while Anil got 9,257 votes.
Independent candidates Geeta Rani stood third position with 832 votes, Surinder Goyal fourth with 564 votes and Arun Kumar fifth with 122 votes.
Of the 17 wards of Pehowa MC, 16 seats of members are won by independent candidates and one by AAP.
Shahabad Municipal Council
In Shahabad, Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate Gulshan Kumar was elected as President of Municipal Council, Shahabad.
Backed by JJP's Shahabad MLA Ram Karan Kala, Gulshan Kumar of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) defeated independent candidate Harish Kumar with a margin of 6,475 votes.
Gulshan bagged 12,345 votes while Harish got 5,870.
Independent candidate Tilak Raj stood third position with 3,278 votes, Sanjeev Kumar of Bahujan Samaj Party was fourth with 625 votes and Gursharan Singh of Indian National Lok Dal was fifth with 367 votes. AAP candidate Amarjeet Kaur stood sixth with 284 votes.
Of the 19 wards of Shahabad MC, all 19 seats of members are won by independent candidates.
Notably, Gourav Bedi, son of Haryana chief minister’s political secretary Krishan Kumar Bedi lost the election to an independent candidate Jasbir Singh with a margin of 120 votes at ward no. 9 of Shahabad MC. Jasbir Singh bagged 684 votes, while Gourav bagged 564.
Ismailabad Municipal Council
In Ismailabad, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Nisha Kano Vangha was elected as President of Municipal Committee, Ismailabad.
Nisha defeated BJP’s Pooja Garg with a margin of 101 votes. Nisha bagged 1,503 votes while Pooja got 1,402.
Independent candidates Jyoti stood third position with 1,225 votes, Harjeet Gotra was fourth with 1,015 votes, Nisha Rani was fifth with 1,003 votes, Deepshikha was sixth with 927 votes and Daljeet Kaur was seventh with 879 votes.
Of the 13 wards of Ismailabad MC, all 13 seats of members are won by independent candidates.
