Coimbatore: A 24-year-old history-sheeter from Erimedu near Puliyakulam was jailed recently for breaching a peace bond signed with police after an inquiry confirmed his involvement in an assault case during the bond period.
Police said N Balaji agreed not to involve in criminal activities for a year by signing a peace bond under Section 110 of the criminal procedure code and handed it over to then deputy commissioner of police (south) Uma on May 9. According to the bond, if he breaches the bond, police would send him to the prison for the remaining period for which the bond was valid, which is till May 8, 2023.
Two days after signing the bond, Balaji was involved in an assault case. He was booked under Sections 294 (b), 324 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code and was arrested. He was remanded in judicial custody. He later came out on bail.
On June 18, the Ramathapuram police produced him before deputy commissioner of police (south) Silambarasan for an inquiry. After questioning Balaji, the complainant and witnesses, the deputy commissioner concluded that assault charge was valid against Balaji and ordered him to be sent to jail till May 8, 2023. He was later lodged at the Coimbatore central prison. Balaji faces three assault cases in Puliyakulam and surrounding areas.
A history-sheet was also opened against him at the Ramanathapuram police station.
