BHUBANESWAR: Armed Maoists killed three commandos of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deep inside Patdhara reserve forest area in Nuapada district on Tuesday afternoon.
Those killed in the ambush, set up by the guerrillas near the Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary, were identified as Sishupal Singh, assistant sub-inspector from UP, Shivpal, assistant sub-inspector from Haryana and Dharmendra Kumar Singh, a constable from Bihar.
"The three jawans came under fire from the Maoists at a location in the forest between two CRPF camps at Bhainsadani and Patdhara. Combing operation is underway," said Amitav Thakur, inspector general of police (operations).
Police said more CRPF Jawans are suspected to have been injured in the exchange of fire.
