MVA must provide timeline on Dhangar reservation recommendation: Dr Mahatme
NAGPUR: Rajya Sabha member Dr Vikas Mahatme said that the recent statements by a state cabinet minister about recommending Dhangar reservations to the centre, needs to be seen in a wider context. He also said the agitation for Dhangar reservation may start again.
“Minister Dhananjay Munde said that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will recommend reservation for Dhangar community to the Centre. I want to bring to his notice that similar recommendation was made in 1979 but was taken back in 1981. We have been hearing this (recommendation) for ages, so the government must give a timeline for its implementation,” said Dhangar.
He added that MVA, especially Shiv Sena, should follow through with this. “We were promised scheduled tribe (ST) status but nothing has happened. Since 2014, lot things have been done for Dhangar community, with former CM Devendra Fadnavis allocating Rs 1,000 crore for it. So we are getting lot of facilities that is meant for ST, now just the actual implementation remains to be seen,” said Dr Mahatme.
The RS member said that Dhangar community may raise its voice for implementation of ST status, in the near future.
