CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government will take appropriate measures regarding Indian citizenship for Sri Lankan Tamils living in rehabilitation camps in the state, chief minister M K Stalin said in a social media post to mark World Refugee Day (June 20).
Pointing to Sangam era poet Kaniyan Pungundarar’s ‘Yaadum Oore Yavarum Kelir’ (sense of belonging to every place and everyone is our own), the CM said it is the way of life of the Tamils to welcome and treat everyone equally. “As the rights of refugees around the world are to be protected, our government is taking concrete steps to improve the lives of Sri Lankan Tamils who have sought refuge in Mother Tamil Nadu,” said the CM in his tweet.
