MYSURU: A youth arrested in connection with cases of chain-snatching recently in Mysuru, along with his accomplices, has revealed to the officers of Vidyaranyapuram police station, that they changed the area of committing the crime, because of an officer posted there.
The police officer in Kuvempunagar had arrested Krishna, a resident of Lakshmipuram, a few months back, but after the officer was posted to Vidyaranyapuram police station, he stopped committing the crime in the jurisdiction, fearing arrest again. He was earlier arrested in a bike theft case, but his luck ran out, as he was again caught by the officer, for robbing women of their gold chains.
According to the officer, Krishna is a good motorcycle rider, and has supervised seven chain-snatching incidents in Mysuru in the last year, in the southern and western localities of Mysuru city. Three others, including one person from Mandya, supported him in these robberies.
The officer expressed surprise over the miscreant keeping updated information about the posting of police officers, and changing their area of operation. Police said that the gang members worked in coordination, to target lone women on the streets, and rob them of gold chains. Based on technical clues, police got to them in no time. The four accused were arrested for chain snatching for the first time, though two of the main accused are facing other criminal cases.
Their arrest helped city police to solve two robbery cases each in Kuvempunagar and Vidyaranyapuram police stations, and one each in Lakshmipuram, Saraswathipuram and Vijayanagar. Gold chains worth nearly Rs 14 lakh were seized from the four accused.
