IIT-Madras to launch two-year MA programmes in economics, English, development studies

The institute is already offering five-year integrated MA programmes in development studies and English studies and it will be restructured into two-year degree programmes.
“MA programmes will be restructured to include more contemporary subjects such as economics for innovation, urban planning and development, health policy, environmental humanities, climate economics, computational linguistics among others,” a spokesperson of the institute said.
The two-year programmes will provide flexibility of choice and encourage many graduates to apply to IIT-M for a degree.
“The courses are being restructured to make them accessible to more students who have completed undergraduation in multiple disciplines, including humanities, science, commerce and engineering,” IIT-Madras director V Kamakoti said in a release.
The programmes will include evidence-based policy analyses, data science and governance, engagement with contemporary issues such as climate change, sustainability and urbanisation among others.
All students who have completed three or four-year degrees are eligible to apply. There will be 75 seats available on the three programmes. These will be open to foreign students on a super numerary basis.
The application process will commence in March or April 2023, and classes will begin in July 2023. The admission will be based on entrance exams.
