THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pangode police have started a probe after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in a rubber plantation at Pulippara near Kallara on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Sumi, 18, a resident of Pulippara and Unnikuttan, 21, a resident of Keezhaikonam in Nellanadu village.Unnikuttan was found hanging from the branch of a rubber tree and a dhoti was used for hanging. Sumi was found lying on the ground and there were no visible wounds on her body, police said.
The police suspect that Unnikuttan smothered Sumi using his bare hands and then committed suicide by hanging. The police have learnt that Unnikuttan stayed in the house of Sumi with the knowledge of her mother Sindhu and he was promised that Sumi would marry him once she attains the legal age of marriage.
However, Sumi showed interest in another alliance and Unnikuttan reportedly picked up a fight over this issue. The police said that he might have been provoked by the rejection and would have killed Sumi by choking her.
