AHMEDABAD: The civic body is launching yet another mobile application, this time to deal with litterbugs and absenteeism among its sanitation staff. The app will use GPS to mark the exact location of garbage-related incidents.
According to the request for proposal (RFP) terms of the project, the app will consist of a fieldwork monitoring module, GPS-based attendance for sanitation staff, an on-the-spot m-challan for litterbugs, and a module for lodging complaints. There will be a facility to also access other services associated with solid-waste management.
Over the past year, Amdavadis have lodged 14,916 complaints about the AMC sanitation staff being irregular in clearing garbage from access roads. Moreover, 28,216 complaints were filed about irregular door-to-door garbage collection from societies. Solid waste management complaints rank the third-highest on the AMC’s complaints’ list after drainage chokes and dysfunctional streetlights.
Over the past five years, the AMC has launched several apps, some of which are yet to realize their full potential for public use. One and half years ago, the AMC had launched its own app for monitoring vaccinations; it is practically redundant. The AMC talks of integrated transport but maintains a separate app for BRTS called ‘Janyatra’, and an app for AMTS called ‘AMTS Official’.
