BERHAMPUR: Several senior citizens of the Silk City on Sunday urged railway minister Ashini Vaishnaw to introduce a direct MEMU train from Berhampur to
Puri before the Rath Yatra on July 1.
They also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the railway minister through the senior station master of Berhampur.
Under the banner Sanskarbadi, a social organisation, several people staged a dharna near the railway station in support of their demand. “We had earlier declared to hold a dharna for three days on the issue. However, we cut it short by a day due to the protest against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme,” said Trinath Moharana, president of Sanskarbadi. “We have been demanding direct passenger train services from Berhampur to Puri via Khurda for the last six years. But no action has been taken yet. This is the right time to introduce the train before the Rath Yatra,” he added.TNN
