RANCHI: The impact of climate change is now beginning to rear its head across the globe and Jharkhand is no exception. It’s official now that there is a gradual rise in average temperature and a decrease in precipitation because of climate change.
Accordingly, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised the normal seasonal rainfall for Jharkhand which will now see around 32mm decrease annually. The IMD is also going to release the revised temperature chart shortly as there has been a marked rise in the temperature over the years.
Against a seasonal (monsoon) average in the state of 1054.7mm, calculated in a period of 50 years from 1961 to 2010, the IMD’s revised average has now come down to 1022.9mm between 1961 and 2020.
Normally, the four months — June, July August and September — are considered the monsoon season.
