Monsoon may roll into UP in 2-3 days

LUCKNOW: Monsoon may arrive in northeast UP in the next 2-3 days, ending the long dry spell in the month of June so far.
The monsoon is moving slowly, and the intensity is also not strong, but based on the current situation, it is expected to enter UP through Kushinagar and Deoria by Wednesday, said Met officials. People in the city will have to wait another week from Wednesday for the first monsoon shower, they added.
Till the arrival of the monsoon, hot and humid conditions with partly cloudy sky will prevail in most parts of the state. There are also possibilities of thunder/dust storms at isolated places, met officials predicted.
The normal dates for monsoon arrival in UP and Lucknow are June 18 and June 23 respectively.
According to the Indian Meteorological department, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Gujarat region, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Vidarbha, some more parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar on Sunday.
Conditions are favourable for further advancement of monsoon into some more parts Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, remaining parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand and some more parts of Bihar and some parts of northeast Uttar Pradesh during next 2-3 days, it added.

In the East UP met division which comprises 42 districts, the rain deficit has been 91% and in the West UP division which includes 33 districts, the shortfall is 65% against the normal.
