COIMBATORE: A grade-II police constable chased and caught a youth who ran away from R S Puram police station on Monday after being arrested in connection with an assault case.
S Jeeva, 21, of Seeranaickenpalayam, an ex-convict, and his elder brother S John, 23, who were under the influence of alcohol, assaulted three people on Sunday night. The trio informed the police over the phone and took treatment as outpatients in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Later, Jeeva and his brother assaulted construction worker P Suresh Kumar, 26, of Seeranaickenpalayam for not giving them a treat on his birthday. Suresh Kumar lodged a complaint with the R S Puram police who registered an assault case against Jeeva and his brother. The police secured Jeeva on Monday and kept him in the police station.
Suddenly, Jeeva ran out of the police station. Police constable Arafat Ali chased him. Jeeva climbed on the compound wall of SRP Ammani Ammal Corporation Higher Secondary School and jumped into the school premises. The cop also climbed on the wall, jumped into the school premises and caught Jeeva. Meanwhile, other cops also arrived at the spot.
