Ranchi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday criticised the Narendra Modi government for its controversial Agnipath scheme and claimed that the BJP-led government has compromisedon national security in order to save some money.
Addressing a by-election rally in Ranchi’s Chanho block amid heavy downpour, Owaisi demanded that the Centre urgently convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Agnipath scheme, which has led to violent protests across many states.
“This government compromised the security of our nation just to save a little bit of money, which is unfortunate. I demand that a special session of the Parliament be convened so that discussions over this scheme can take place,” Owaisi said.
Owaisi addressed a rally for Dev Kumar Dhan, a
BJP leader, who joined AIMIM on June 6. Dhan, who is contesting independently in the June 23 Mandar bye-polls, is up against Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey and BJP’s Gangotri Kujur.
“It is because of PM Modi’s flawed policies that the youth of our country is angry. It is the BJP’s doing that they have come out on the streets to protest. I lend my full support to all those who have raised their voices against such a flawed policy,” he added, while criticising the scheme.
“The young men of this country join the army for dignity, to serve the nation and work hard so that they can get pension. The government has disgraced that by bringing in a scheme which offers contractual jobs,” Owaisi said.
Earlier, when the Hyderabad MP arrived at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda International Airport, a few persons raised pro-Pakistan slogans, leaving the AIMIM workers red-faced.
The party’s Jharkhand unit president Mohammad Shakir alleged that it was the handiwork of some conspirators who made a deliberate attempt to frame their leader. “I urge the Ranchi police and the administration to identify and persecute those men,” Shakir told TOI.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi administration late on Sunday evening constituted a two-member team to probe into the alleged ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans. Ranchi SDO issued a directive order to Hehal circle officer Om Prakash Mandal and Hatia DSP Raja Kumar Mishra to probe the incident and submit a report within 24 hours.
Owaisi criticised the JMM-led mahagathbandhan government over the violence after Friday prayers which broke out in Ranchi earlier this month. “The Congress party is seeking votes here, but I want to ask them why did they not put those cops behind bars who killed two Muslim boys by firing at them? It is the BJP and the JMM which killed those boys,” he said.
He later met the family members of Mohammad Mudassir Kaifi and Mohammad Sahil, who had died in the Friday violence.
