KOLKATA:
Covid cases are rising once again in
Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur areas. From less than 25 active cases last week, the number has now reached 90, with 20 fresh cases on Saturday in the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area.
The number of daily cases fell to one or two in the last few months, but there has been a sudden spurt in the past few days.
According to civic officials, the numbers are still very low compared to the population of the civic body area — over seven lakh. “The daily fresh cases are increasing and we are keeping an eye on it. However, there is nothing to panic or to be unnecessarily worried, as there are only a few hospitalisations and most cases are very mild or asymptomatic. People are urged to maintain Covid-safety protocols. We will be following the health department instructions as and when it is given,” said a BMC health department official.
The fresh cases were reported from some blocks in Salt Lake and a few pockets in Rajarhat-Gopalpur area.
Officials added that sanitisation was done at places from where Covid cases were reported. They have also been urging people to get their vaccination and booster shots. They civic body is still running the Covid testing centres in Salt Lake and Rajarhat, but very few people are turning up to get themselves tested.
As per the last updated figures, over 58,570 persons have been affected from Covid since the outbreak in March 2020.
Over 58,120 persons have recovered and there have been a total of 389 Covid deaths till date. No Covid death has been reported in BMC area since March 4 this year.
