Jaipur: The directorate of local bodies (DLB) has issued notices to all the district collectors not to hire contractual workers in urban areas under the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme till next order.
For better implementation of the scheme, an exercise was started by the state government to appoint employees on contractual posts in municipalities, municipal councils, and municipal corporations. However, the scheme has been put on hold.
A senior official at JMC said, “We have received the directions not to hire the contractual employees. The process will begin soon after receiving the orders.”
Under the scheme that was announced in the state budget this year, the state government had given approval to appoint employees on approved contract posts in the municipal corporations.
The aim of this scheme is to provide 100 days employment every year to people living in the urban bodies. An official said under the provisions of the notification issued by department of personnel, steps were taken for the appointment of people on contractual posts in urban bodies.
Families residing in urban areas, who have Jan Aadhaar card and are aged between 18 and 60 years, were applying for employment in their municipal corporation. The person will be provided with 100 days of employment within 15 days of applying.
“More than 3,000 registration applications in greater municipal corporation and 550 applications in heritage were received. A plan was chalked out under which environmental protection, plantation, garden maintenance, pavement, was be done by people.”
