BHUBANESWAR: Jaleswar block development officer (BDO) Ashwini Kumar Das, whose properties were raided by the vigilance officials on Saturday, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5 crore.
“After a thorough search, inventory and further inquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Das were calculated. He was found to be in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5 crore, which is 450% higher than his known sources of income,” a vigilance statement said.
The anti-corruption wing said they would find out how and when Das accumulated the ill-gotten assets. Das started his career as a junior assistant in the agriculture department in 1995. He was promoted to the Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) in 2015 and was posted as additional tehsildar and sub-registrar at different places. He was promoted to Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) in 2020. Before Jaleswar, Das was the BDO of Tangi and Kendrapada. TNN
