Coimbatore hospital ransacking: CB-CID plans to arrest advocate, 11 hired goons

COIMBATORE: The Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) of the Coimbatore city police are planning to arrest 11 hired goons and an advocate in a case registered for ransacking Chennai Hospital at Gandhipuram and for taking over the control of the premises after sending out the inpatients and the staff.
On December 4, 2020, on the direction of Dr Ramachandran, a group of goons entered the hospital and took over the control of the building after forcibly sending out the staff and inpatients. They removed the hospital’s board and fixed a new board in the name of Ellen Hospital.
The CB-CID police have already arrested Dr P Ramachandran, 75, his associate Dr Kamaraj, hired goon Murthy, 45, of Mani Nagar at Rathinapuri, Dr Ramachandran’s personal assistant Murugesh, 47, and his car driver Palanisamy in connection with the case.
On Monday, Dr Ramachandran, Dr Kamaraj and three accomplices were produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court after the five days police custody. The CJM remanded them in judicial custody till July 4, 2022.
According to sources, an advocate played a vital role in the case. “We came to know that the advocate arranged the hired goons to take over the possession of the hospital. City crime branch (CCB) police officials also assisted him. We suspect that Dr Ramachandran has spent more than Rs 30 lakh to take over the premises,” said the sources.
The sources also added that Chennai Hospital managing director Dr Umashankar had failed to pay the rental amount of more than Rs 1 crore to Dr Ramachandran who had issued notices twice. Dr Umashankar had an opportunity to sell the shares of the hospital. Before he moved to sell the shares of the hospital, Dr Ramachandran had decided to take over the control of the hospital. So, he sent the hired goons and took over the control of the hospital.
“The CB-CID police planned to arrest 11 more hired goons in connection with the case. Then only the police can go behind the police officers who supported the hired goons and police officials who were mute spectators when the goons ransacked and took over the hospital,” said the sources.
