MADURAI: Two wagons of a goods train derailed at the third platform of Madurai Junction in the wee hours of Monday.
The empty wagons with a new modified wagon rake were brought from Koodal Nagar station to the yard at Madurai junction for inspection.
This new modified wagon rake is used by the division to load tractors from Vadipatti. Before loading, it was brought to the yard for regular inspection.
The rake was brought to the yard when all the wheels of 8th wagon derailed completely. The two wheels of the 9th wagon also derailed.
Division officials went to the spot and removed the wagons using a crane.
The track was inspected for damages.
"The track did not suffer any major damage and the derailed wagons were removed from the track," said railway officials.
The railway officials added, "The train traffic was not affected due to this incident since the track was away from the main track."
