Hindus have stood by us, don’t try creating Hindu-Sikh divide: Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana

PATIALA: Death row convict in former CM Beant Singh assassination case Balwant Singh Rajoana’s sister Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana who is a joint candidate of SAD (B)-BSP and some Panthic orgranisation in Sangrur by-elections on Monday said that some people and politicians were trying to create a Hindu-Sikh divide.
While recalling the atrocities on her family during the militancy period in Punjab, she said that Hindu families had come in their support when they were facing state-atrocities.
"Those who call us radicals should know that my father Jaswant Singh was ex-army man who had fought three wars in 1962, 1965 and 1971. My sister was shot dead in her house whereas my elder brother, then 18, was also killed and we were not even given his dead body. At that time when we were facing the atrocities, Hindu families had come to our support. Even today Hindu families stand by us. Since then Hindu families are supporting us. Now some politicians to polish their politics are trying to create Hindu-Sikh divide but I would appeal to them to refrain from such political stunts", said Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana.
"I am not a politician and haven’t come on this platform to play politics. I also don’t know politics. I am contesting only to raise the voice of Bandi Singh families to release over-imprisoned Sikh prisoners including my brother Balwant Singh Rajoana who has been lodged in Phansi Chakki in Central Jail Patiala", she added.
She said that had Simranjit Singh Mann raised the matter of atrocities on Sikh community in the Parliament after winning 1989 elections, the lives of numerous Sikhs killed during the period 1989 to 1993 could have been saved.
She also questioned Simranjit Mann for raising his concerns in favour of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who was being questioned by ED in a corruption case, and said, "You (Simranjit Singh Mann) raised voice for Rahul Gandhi, you are concerned about his human rights but have you failed to see human rights violations of Bandi Singhs (over imprisoned Sikh prisoners) lodged in jails from 25 to 30 years and their families' sufferings".
She said that the Central government during 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Ji in 2019 had issued notification to release eight Sikh prisoners and commute the death sentence of Rajoana into life imprisonment but the decision was not implemented despite six times the Supreme court's directing the Center in this regard.
