India reported 12,781 new Covid-19 cases and 18 deaths on Monday. The country has 76,700 active cases, while the daily positivity rate has increase over 4 per cent. India’s tally of cases and deaths stands at 4,33,09,473 and 5,24,873, respectively. New Delhi reported 1,060 new cases and six deaths on Monday, taking the city’s positivity rate to over 10 per cent. Maharashtra recorded 2,345 fresh coronavirus cases, including 1,310 in Mumbai, and two fatalities. The state has over 24,000 active cases.
An official told BA.2.38, a sub-variant of the Omicron strain, has become the prevailing strain in Mumbai and Pune. “We have also registered the presence of Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5 among the samples that have undergone genome sequencing but numbers are still few,” said Dr Rajesh Karyakarte, Maharashtra coordinator for genome sequencing. “At present, the samples are testing positive for both BA.2 and BA.2.38.”
Telangana on Tuesday recorded 403 new COVID-19 cases taking the total count in the state to 7,96,704, a Health department bulletin said. Telangana on Monday recorded 246 new COVID-19 cases.
Amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Telangana Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao said it is important to complete vaccination by taking both doses and it is also equally important to adhere to precautions against COVID, including wearing a face mask and maintaining physical distancing.
Since last 15 days, COVID cases are on slight rise in the country as well as in Telangana, he said. (PTI)
Karnataka on Tuesday reported 738 new COVID-19 infections, while the death toll remained unchanged with no virus-related fatalities. Of the total 738, 698 cases were detected in Bengaluru.
The positivity rate has now reached 3.76 per cent. Currently, there are 5,020 active cases in the state, with 4,819 ones in the capital city alone.
As many as 646 (Bengaluru-602) patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday logged 737 new COVID-19 infections, including a returnee from the United Arab Emirates, totalling to 34,62,297 till date, while the death toll remained unchanged at 38,026 with nil fatalities, the Health department said.
As many as 322 people have recuperated from the pathogen in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,19,905 leaving 4,366 active infections, a medical bulletin said.
Chennai topped the majority of cases with 383 followed by Chengalpet 128 while the remaining spread across 29 of the 38 districts. The state capital leads among the districts with 2,103 active cases and 7,55,903 overall. (PTI)

While the addition to the tally was 471 more than the 1,310 cases reported on Monday, the city witnessed less than 2,000 cases for the second consecutive day, he pointed out.
Mumbai, which has an active tally of 14,146, has been reporting COVID-19 cases in four digits since June 7. Of the 1,781 new cases, only 87 needed hospitalization, of which 17 required oxygen support, he said. Currently, a total of 83 patients in the city are on oxygen support. (PTI)

A total of 19,165 tests to detect the infection were conducted on Monday, the department said. With the fresh cases, Delhi's Covid tally has gone up to 19,24,532, while the death toll due to the disease has climbed to 26,239, it added.
Of the 9,491 beds in the city hospitals, only 264 are occupied, while the beds at the Covid care centres and Covid health centres are lying vacant, the department said. (PTI)
Jammu and Kashmir reported 25 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Tuesday, officials said here. With this, the infection tally in the union territory has climbed to 4,54,54, whereas the death toll rose to 4,754, they said.
According to officials, 19 cases were reported from Jammu division and six from Kashmir valley. There are total 185 active cases in the union territory, whereas 4,49,606 people have recovered from the disease, they said.
There are total 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory, they added. (PTI)
Puducherry has reported an increase in number of fresh COVID-19 cases with 34 infections in the last 24 hours, a senior official in Department of Health said here on Tuesday. The union territory had logged eight new cases on Monday.
The 34 fresh infections were identified following the examination of 1,941 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Tuesday, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release, adding that the total caseload was 1,66,107.
The number of active cases stood at 150 as against the 129 on Monday. While two patients were in hospitals, the remaining 148 patients were in home quarantine, the Director said. (PTI)
Amid a spike in Covid cases in Delhi, experts on Tuesday said there was no need to panic as the number of coronavirus patients getting hospitalised was still on the lower side but asserted that every individual should exercise caution and follow all safety norms.
Delhi on Monday reported 1,060 new Covid cases in a day and six deaths, the highest in around four months, and a positivity rate of 10.09 per cent, the highest since January 24 when the figure was 11.8 per cent. The city on Friday had recorded 1,797 coronavirus cases, the highest in nearly four months, along with one fatality while the positivity rate was 8.18 per cent.
Doctors at leading government and private hospitals here concurred that though it wasn't a "panic situation" but cautioned against lowering the guard, while flagging that many people had stopped wearing mask or stopped putting it on properly at public places, either due to a sense of complacency or fearlessness after getting vaccinated. Five fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ladakh, pushing the overall infection tally of the region to 28,318 on Tuesday, officials said. Of the fresh cases, four were detected in Leh district and one in Kargil district, they said.
So far, 228 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to the officials. The officials said that the number of active COVID-19 cases has gone up to 27 in Ladakh, 26 in Leh and one in Kargil.
A total of 238 sample reports were tested in Ladakh. Meanwhile, 186 sample reports in Leh and 52 in Kargil tested negative for the virus, they said. Total five people, three in Leh and two in Kargil, were discharged after recovering from the disease. (PTI)
With schools set to reopen from July 1 following summer vacation, rising Covid cases in Delhi-NCR have sparked concerns among parents even as principals said there should be no more disruption in offline learning and asserted that all measures are being taken to get students accustomed to living with the pandemic.
According to school principals, while coronavirus is posing new threats, there is a need for parents to understand that the pandemic is nearing the endemic phase and one should get accustomed to living with it.
