4.5L to cast votes in co-op polls today

Bhubaneswar: Over 4.53 lakh members of 731 primary co-operative societies will exercise their franchise in Sunday’s election. The state co-operative election commission has made elaborate arrangements for the polls.
Though election to 3,252 primary cooperative societies of the state was supposed to be held on June 19, office-bearers of 2,521 bodies have been elected unopposed. Election will now be held to only 731 societies, said state cooperative election commissioner S L Seal.
He said of the 731 primary cooperative societies, 244 have been identified as sensitive for which special arrangements like deployment of magistrate, armed police and micro-observers have been made. “We have appointed presiding officers, polling officers and police personnel for the purpose. The district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) have been directed to take all steps to ensure peaceful polling,” said Seal. TNN
