Dist secy: Plan to focus on people’s needs

Dharwad: The annual action plan being prepared by the zilla panchayat should focus on the needs of people and not merely fixing a target, said secretary in-charge of Dharwad district R Vishal.
Chairing a meeting of district-level officers to review the progress of work under the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) at the ZP meeting hall here on Friday, he said the projects and welfare programmes should be followed in accordance with guidelines.
Vishal, who is also the secretary, education, said officials cannot wash away their hands citing staff shortage.
“The district officials should efficiently use the services of the existing workforce for effective implementation of projects. There should not be any compromise with the quality of work and complete works in stipulated time,” he said.
Deputy commissioner Gurudatt Hegde said that due to the model code of conduct for elections which was in force, there has been a delay in identifying eligible beneficiaries of government schemes. Now, as the elections are over, officials must lay stress on identifying beneficiaries and reach the targets, he said.
ZP CEO Suresh Itnal said all works taken up by the ZP have achieved progress. The ZP has been judiciously utilising the funds sanctioned both by Central and state governments, he added.
At the meeting, joint director of agriculture Rajshekar IB said that so far, 12,543 quintals of sowing seeds have been distributed through Raita Samparka Kendras. 10,842 tonnes of urea and 12,176 tonnes of DAP too has been distributed. There is no shortage of any kind of fertiliser and buffer stock is maintained, he said.
Horticulture officials said crop insurance for chilli has been extended till August.
District health officer BC Karigoudar said the district has successfully completed administering of first and second dose of Covid vaccine.
