Mangaluru: Historical monuments in Dakshina Kannada will host the International Day of Yoga on Tuesday. The district administration has decided to hold yoga events at prominent places and heritage sites.
Accordingly, Saavira Kambada Basadi, the thousand pillar shrine of Jains, and Chennakeshava Temple in Sullia, will host events. Mass events will be held at various places, including the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru, Alva’s Nudisiri Vedike in Moodbidri and KVG Ayurveda College in Sullia.
Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra held a preparatory meeting, and said that Dr Mohammad Iqbal, district Ayush officer, and additional deputy commissioner Krishnamurthy H K, will make preparations for the International Day of Yoga 2022, in the district.
“In the backdrop of the Eighth International Day of Yoga, all departments should coordinate and make the events successful. Emphasis should be given to hold events at venues that are part of Dakshina Kannada district’s heritage and traditions. The town municipality of Moodbidri will make arrangements to host Yoga Day at the Savira Kambada Basadi,” he said, adding that Dakshina Kannada district minister V Sunil Kumar will inaugurate the programme at the Town Hall in Mangaluru at 8 am.
The health department has been directed to organise events in all the health and wellness centres in the district. Mescom has been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the programme. Meanwhile, officials in the district have been asked to arrange refreshments for all participants, during the Yoga Day ceremony.
Minister for fisheries, ports and inland transportation S Angara, social welfare and backward classes welfare minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLAs and MLCs from the district will take part in the International Day of Yoga event to be held at Town Hall in Mangaluru.
800 NCC cadets to perform yoga on beach
A yoga session, as part of the International Day of Yoga, has been organised by NCC Group Headquarters, Mangaluru, on Tuesday, at the Blue Flag Beach, Padubidri, for NCC cadets.
About 800 cadets, along with yoga instructors and the NCC fraternity, will participate in the event, that will be conducted from 8 am to 10 am.
