THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three people drowned in the sea in separate incidents while they were taking a bath in Varkala on Sunday evening. The deaths occured at Papanasham beach, Kappil beach and Odayam beach .
The deceased were identified as Ajeesh (29), Mahin (30) and Ajay Vignesh (24). Both Ajeesh and Mahin are native of
Thiruvananthapuram whereas Ajay Vignesh is a Coimbatore native who came to visit the destination with his other four friends. Balasivaraman, one of his friends was rescued and was admitted to S N Mission Hospital Varkala . He is currently on ventilator support. The bodies of the deceased are being kept at the S N Mission hospital and Varkala Taluk hospital.
An official from Ayiroor Police Station said that Ajay Vignesh drowned at around 4:00 pm at Odayam beach. The deceased is a dentist by profession who lived in B/17 Mohan square apartment in Ganapathy Palladam, Coimbatore. Meanwhile, Mahin drowned at around 6:00 pm at Kappil beach when he came to visit the destination along with his eight friends. He is a mini bus driver who resides in Dream Mahal, Vanchiyoor in Alamcode. His family includes his wife Nafya and his daughters Noora Fathima and Nazriya Fathima.
Ajeesh drowned at the Papanasham beach. According to an official from Varkala Police Station, the incident occurred around 6:30pm when he waded into the sea with his friend. The official said that the beach has a clear sign board warning against venturing into the sea but people ignored the warnings. Ajeesh is the son of Pushpangathan. He is a resident of P S Sadhanam, Raghunathapuram in Varkala. His family includes his wife Athira and a kid.
