4 yrs late, road project set to begin this mth

Gurgaon: Travelling to the sectors between 77 and 79 is set to be easier by the end of the year, with GMDA officials saying on Saturday the authority is likely to complete construction of the master road in the area by that time.
Officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) told TOI construction for the project is expected to begin later this month and be completed within six months.
The 3.3km-master road will run between sectors 77 and 78, 78 and 79A, and 78 and 79. The project also includes introducing a surface drainage system on the stretch as well.
Work for the project has been in the pipeline for a few years now. In 2018, the first tender for it was awarded but the agency didn’t complete the construction, prompting the authority to float another tender.
“The construction of this road has been an important agenda for GMDA as we are aware of the needs of the citizens in this belt. The new agency has been finalised through a fair e-tendering process and construction will begin by the end of the month,” said Shweta Sharma, GMDA executive engineer, infrastructure I division.
“The duration to complete the project is 6 months,” she added, after authority officials held a meeting with residents of the sectors to discuss the project on Saturday.
The sectors to which this new road will cater are located adjacent to the National Highway 48 (NH48), and house several gated societies. GMDA officials estimate that the road will benefit more than 10,000 people who live in and around the area.
More than 45 patches of the master roads are incomplete in sectors 58-115. Construction has been held up due to hurdles like land acquisition litigation, pending transfer of land to GMDA, existing structures built in the alignment and pending acquisition at some spots.
