Man gets 14-yr RI for abduction, rape and forced marriage

Ramgarh: A district court in Ramgarh awarded 14 years of rigorous imprisonment to one Akil Ansari (28) on Saturday under Section 376 of the IPC for kidnapping a woman, raping her several times and marrying her against her will in September 2020. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 and pronounced an additional three-year jail term in case of non-payment of the fine.
The court of additional district judge-1, Radha Krishna, also granted an eight-year jail term under Section 366 of the IPC, slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 and an additional jail term of two years in case of non-payment of the fine. Both these sentences will run concurrently. The woman was kidnapped on September 10 and a week later, the accused was arrested.
Additional public prosecutor S K Shukla said, “An FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman’s father. The complainant told the police that his daughter was taken to Kolkata forcibly, raped and then brought to Ranchi where she was forced to convert to Islam and marry Ansari.”
