GURUGRAM: Almost a week after a gold chain was snatched from a woman while she was on a morning walk with her husband in Sushant Lok.
Police said a gang has emerged that targets morning walkers wearing round-neck T-shirts.
On June 13, two persons allegedly snatched the gold chain from a woman’s neck while she was on a morning walk with her husband in Sushant Lok on June 2. The couple was on their way to Mehdi park when they noticed a boy following them, who grabbed the chain from the woman’s neck and ran away with his accomplice, waiting on a motorcycle nearby. The police said that the woman was also wearing a round-neck T-shirt.
Police in the civvies has now been deployed to keep an eye on the morning walkers after two high-profile snatchings at Golf Course road and Galleria market on May 26. A gang of two men was recently busted. A total of 10 gold chains and two motorcycles were recovered from their possession.
“Since the gold chain is visible in round neck T-shirts. It becomes easy for snatchers to target the victim and snatch the chain from them. We have learned that the snatchers do a random recce and look for people wearing gold chains,” said a police officer.
According to the police, this is the first time the culprits are targeting those going for morning walks. They are mostly on motorcycles and pace up and snatch chains. “Earlier, we would hear about incidents taking place in the afternoon, evening, or night. The trend to target morning walkers has emerged new,” said a police official.
