PATNA: Bihar’s ruling JD(U) on Sunday hit out at 'Y' category security to 10 BJP leaders in the state, saying, "Securing the future of youth is more important than providing security cover to BJP leaders."
Reacting over the Union ministry of home affairs’(MHA) decision to provide "Y" category security to 10 saffron party leaders in the state, JD(U) spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar on Sunday said the youth and students protesting against the Agnipath scheme, are the future of this country. "Y"-category security cover has been provided to some of the BJP leaders, but securing the future of youth is more important.
The JD(U) leader further said necessary steps should be taken to allay the apprehensions about the Agnipath scheme from the minds of youth who have been protesting. He said the authorities should talk to the protesting youth.
Neeraj also said that a positive initiative should be taken to protect the future of youth. "It is the responsibility of all parties," he said.
The MHA on Saturday decided to provide "Y" category security to 10 BJP leaders, after the saffron party leaders were targeted and their houses were attacked by agitators protesting against the Centre's "Agnipath" scheme for short-term recruitment into the armed forces.
The Centre’s move came after Bihar BJP president Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal blamed the state police for remaining silent even when properties of BJP leaders were vandalised by the protesters and the party office was ransacked at Madhepura.
Those who have been provided "Y" category security include Jaiswal, Deputy CM Renu Devi, Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad, Digha MLA Sanjiv Chaurasia, Bisfi MLA Haribhushan Thakur, Araria MP Pradeep Singh, Darbhanga MP Gopal Ji Thakur, Katihar MLC Ashok Agrawal, Kishanganj MLC Dr Dilip Kumar Jaiswal and Darbhanga town MLA Sanjay Sarawagi.
