15-year-old from business family rapes 5-star staffer

DEHRADUN: A 24-year-old woman working in the housekeeping department of a Dehradun-based 5-star hotel was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy staying there with his family, reports Kalyan Das.
As per police, the accused is from an affluent family in Chhattisgarh with interests in the construction business. The woman, who lives with her husband in Dehradun, said she was raped inside a washroom and later offered money by the boy’s father to “bury the matter”. She, however, insisted on reporting the matter to police. An FIR has been filed under IPC and the boy has been apprehended. As per sub-inspector Shashi Purohit the incident happened around 9:30 am on Friday. “As per the complaint, the woman was inside the women’s washroom and charging her phone when the boy barged in. He locked the door, raped her and left.”
Purohit said that after receiving the information, police reached the spot and apprehended the boy. “A medical exam has proved the woman was raped,” he said.
Speaking to TOI, the survivor said, “When I told the family what the boy did, instead of consoling me, they offered me money and treatment at a big hospital to hush up the matter. I told them I’d rather go to police and didn’t need their money.
Meanwhile, one of the officers privy to the investigation said that the boy had confessed to the act. “The boy kept crying continuously during questioning and said he had made a mistake, which he now regrets,” the officer said.
