MUMBAI: The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results declared on Friday put the Mumbai division on number six slot with a pass percentage of 96.94. The state with nine divisions also recorded a pass percentage of 96.94, the highest so far.
Konkan the smallest division stayed on top with a pass percentage of 99.27. Kolhapur was on number two with 98.59%. Nashik was at the bottom with 95.90%. Repeater candidates too did well with a pass percentage of 79.06%.
The month-long exams were held in March across 22,922 schools in the state in the offline mode. A big chunk of the academic year 2021-22 was online, with learning shifting to the hybrid mode in October.
A total of 15.68 lakh students, including 3.51 lakh from Mumbai division’s city and suburbs, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar and Raigad, wrote their exams in their own schools--a special arrangement this year due to the pandemic.
Last year the state recorded a near 100% results that were an outcome of no exams and internal evaluation.
At the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, when the Geography paper was cancelled and students were given marks based on internal assessment, Mumbai had registered a record pass percentage of 93.1% (state registered 93.1%) but stayed on the fifth position.
The 2022 results will be the highest pass percentage so far. The year 2019 saw the worst performance by students in Mumbai division (74.9%) and state (75.5%). Academicians attributed the drop in results to doing away with internal assessments and 100% theory papers.
Girls outperformed boys with 97.96%. Boys pass percentage was 96.06.
Differently abled students pass percentage was 94.40.
A total of 12,210 schools recorded 100% results.
