DIBRUGARH: To prevent any untoward incident that is likely to cause breach of public peace and tranquility in the district and endanger the safety of public life and property, Dibrugarh district magistrate and deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the entire district prohibiting several activities. The order has come into force with effect from June 15 and will remain in force a period of 60 days. Any violation of the order will be punishable under section 188 of the IPC.
In the order, Pegu said, “...it appears to the District Magistrate, Dibrugarh, that a sensitive law & order situation is prevailing in the Dibrugarh district owing to various reasons... Hence, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 144 Cr. P.C., the district magistrate, Dibrugarh, has promulgated the prohibitory order on some activities, prohibiting the same throughout Dibrugarh district.”
As per the order, assembly of five or more persons in any public place, carrying of lethal weapons and arms, including daggers, sticks, spears and swords, in public places have been prohibited. There is a curb on public rallies, processions and strikes.
