Presidential polls: BJP forms 14-member team

According to sources, this 14-member management team will coordinate with all state units of the BJP and its allies for the presidential election and is also expected to guide its elected voting representatives on the voting process.

IN ORDER to coordinate with its state units and allies for the July 18 presidential election, the BJP on Friday constituted a 14-member team, headed by Union minister Gajendra Shekhawat.

The “management team”, which includes ministers G Kishan Reddy, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Sarbananda Sonowal, Arjun Meghwal and Bharati Pawar, is expected to ensure a smooth election process and victory of party candidate for the election.

The BJP, which is yet to announce its candidate, earlier deputed party president J P Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to talk to opposition parties to see if there could be a consensus candidate.

Sources said the management team will coordinate with all state units of the BJP and party allies for the presidential election and is also expected to guide its elected voting representatives on the voting process.

BJP general secretaries Vinod Tawde and C T Ravi are the co-conveners of the team. Tarun Chugh, a general secretary, is also part of the team, according to a notice issued by the party.

The other members are BJP’s national vice-president D K Aruna, national secretary Rituraj Sinha, national president of women’s wing Vanati Srinivasan, national spokesperson Sambit Patra and Assam unit vice-president Rajdeep Roy.
