Kolkata: Couple from Rajasthan found hanging in Kidderpore rented flat

A young couple from Rajasthan reportedly died by suicide inside a house that was rented by the young man’s friend in Kidderpore.
KOLKATA: A young couple from Rajasthan — who are suspected to have eloped from their homes at Jhunjhunu after being in a relationship — reportedly died by suicide inside a house that was rented by the young man’s friend in Kidderpore.
Though the incident was noticed around 10.45pm on Wednesday after the house owner got a rotting smell and alerted the police, the couple — Dinesh Kumar Kaloya (29) and Sangeeta Lal (19) — seemed to have hanged themselves from the fan at least 48 hours ago.
While Dinesh was a resident of ward 14 in Mandawa, Sangeeta was a resident of ward 6 in the same area. Kolkata Police contacted the Jhunjhunu Police who informed them that the couple had been missing since June 7, almost 10 months after Dinesh had returned from Dubai. “A missing case was registered at Mandawa Police Station in Rajasthan on June 8 after Sangeeta could not be found. She had left home, claiming that she was going to school but she did not return home,” said a police officer in Kolkata.
“Cops rushed to the spot and found that a foul smell was coming out from the first-floor flat of a building on Karl Marx Sarani. The door was bolted from inside. Cops broke open the door and found the couple hanging from the ceiling fan by using a bathing cloth and dupatta,” said joint CP (Crime) Murlidhar Sharma, adding that no foul play could be detected so far.
The couple arrived here on June 13. However, neighbours did not notice them after the morning of June 14, according to the police.
Cops said Dinesh was married earlier but it could not be ascertained whether Sangeeta had been aware of this. Dinesh who was a driver in Dubai had made several tall claims before her, claimed Sangeeta’s kin. Sources said the woman’s family members refused to come down to Kolkata to claim her body as they told local cops there that “she was already dead in their eyes.” “Efforts are on to try and convince them to come down here,” said a police source.
According to the police, Dinesh had contacted his Kolkata-based friend Ranjit Shaw (40) as they had worked together in Dubai and said he and his “wife” were coming down to the city for a visit. The house that was arranged for the couple had also been let out to the Shaws 15 years ago.
